A course that explores the experience of those seeking and engaging with mental health services in Oxfordshire. We will explore some of the common frustrations that people can face, with particular focus on problem solving around these issues. Students will discover different ways in which they might prepare for an appointment, deal with long waiting times and get their needs met by appropriate services. We will look at effective communication and how it can help us to both find the right service and then get our needs met by those services.
This course is suitable for people who are engaged with services or seeking to engage and the people who support them; friends, family and carers. The course may also be of interest to people who volunteer or work in mental health services who seek to gain a greater understanding of the difficulties that the people they work with might face that could prevent them from finding or engaging with services.
Course duration: half day
